UTTERLY ROMANTIC, this bride's style leaves us dreaming of ball gown style dresses with a touch of fusion inspiration. From her hot pink anarkali, to this beautiful white gown, the transformation is delicious and girly, accented beautifully with a pearl jhoomar and chaand bali earrings, a perfect blend of east and west in the beaded bodice and the layers of tulle and a lace underlay. Her dark red lips and neutral eyes, with a simple chignon slightly teased at the crown is understated glamour, a perfect compliment to the dress, letting it speak for itself

THERE HAS BEEN A DEARTH OF Pakistani fashion on my blog lately, and I have been looking to remedy that, so I was pleased to stumble across this collection by Fahad Hussayn. The editorial collection was photographed by Ather Shahzad, and features model Noor Bhatty. And while the runway edit is quite striking, and I definitely plan on featuring it here, I thought this version was worth sharing for the hair and makeup inspiration.  I am also loving the couching and quilted detailing on the first outfit, a personal fave.

IN KEEPING WITH MY RESOLUTION to blog more Pakistani Fashion, this editorial shoot from Paperazzi and GT Pakistan Magazines.  The Gatsby-inspired shoot combines the flowing silhouettes currently favoured by Pakistani designers with twenties themed accessories, such as fur stoles, beaded clutches on delicate chains, Art Deco necklaces and beaded jewelry.  The prevalence of sleeveless gowns and a-symmetric cuts are a nod to more European cuts and are a perfect transition piece for a reception or registry do.

IN THE STYLE OF SELFRIDGE'S, Nordstrom, and Harrod's who all house boutiques within their stores that cater exclusively for a single line, Mumbai-based Ensemble announced the opening of their Manish Malhotra boutique.  The store will carry his pret-a-porter, couture, and fusion collections.  Of particular interest to us is the bridal wear, which will be exactly the same as that carried in Malhotra's stand-alone locations, according to Tina Tahiliani of Ensemble.

UMRAO JAAN REMAINS a classic in the imagination of Indian cinema and popular culture.  The combination of legendary beauty, an epic romance, and grand history lend the story a sense of myth. It's no wonder that her story continues to capture the hearts of brides looking for a way to narrate their own wedding day.  Portrayed here by Sonya Jehan, photographed by Ashish Chawla, in a collection of breathtaking kundan and polki jewellery by Hazoorilal and Sons, the legend lives on.

THE RETURN TO RETRO has brought with it an unabashed love for heavy metal hardware, sequins and glitter.  Chanel pays tribute to this look in their makeup for the season, with chunky glitter on the models' eyelids.  I am personally loving this look, perhaps in a more finely milled version, for the Rock and Romance bride.

The Bride's Lookbook: Richa Chadda for CineBlitz India

THOUGH THE SARIS IN this collection of images from Cineblitz, featuring Richa Chadda, are beautiful and inspiring pieces, we are taken with the hairstyles and most especially, the makeup.  Indigo eyeshadow extended outside the eye to create a cat-eye shape with a clear cut at the crease, and eyes rimmed with white liner to keep the eyes open, this look is on point.  The hair, teased and shaped into a voluminous faux-hawk updo is the right look for a rocker chic bride.

NOT QUITE RECOVERED FROM a weekend of wedding festivities, but feeling very inspired by all the lovely clothes and looking forward to sharing trends with you.  In the meanwhile, I found this gorgeous collection of styled images by Raman Cheema Photography, with make up by Hazara Artistry.  The girls of this gorgeous blog, aptly entitled I wear my Sari with Jeans, styled this shoot, and filled with goodness after my own heart.  I am especially a fan of the black lace sari blouse.  equally at home over a tight black minidress, this blouse complements the black and gold silk saree.  Paired with dark lips and a fishtail braid, this look is the epitome of understatement that I always prefer.  For the glam girls, an heirloom silk sari, paired golden jhumki and a cuff, should be guaranteed to have you carry the night in style.

TENA DURRANI
Designer Tena Durrani makes elaborate and architectural embroidery easy to wear through the employment of casual silhouettes.  A v-neck, sleeveless neckline, for example, belies the elaborate beading of an open kurta and trouser suit, and the tube top underneath makes the piece incredibly sexy.  Durrani has a penchant for florals, but not so that they cover an entire garment, the whimsical patterns are interspersed with other motifs to keep the pieces sophisticated.

NIDA AZWER
Nida Azwer's Hyderabadi Collection is resplendent with creamy shades of pink, coral, grey, gold, yellow, and brown.  The outfits are sewn from maisuri silks, brocades, linens, and pure chiffons.  The voluminous dupattas, long enough for double drapes, and Hyderabadi kurtas are embroidered with flowers, Mughal miniatures, birds, dragons and butterflies in delicate resham embroidery.  This couture bridal collection is dreamy and romantic.

PRIYAL PRAKASH
Using traditional techniques of applying gold trim to fabric in the form of gota, and applying them in a throughly modern fashion to a muted palette of basic silhouettes in sarees and lenghas for an understated and elegant collection, Prakash creates a thoroughly contemporary philosophy.  Her work is romantic and ethereal, inviting more imagination through it's simplicity.

COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED BY coursework and end of term papers, and feeling a bit winter-weary, with the cool weather relenting every now and then to let in a bit of thaw, I am currently looking for an escape.  Is it any wonder I was drawn to these images in my lightbox, featuring the designs of Rajdeep Ranawat, photographed by Ashish Chawla.  Fantastic and painterly, the net and silk sarees with elaborate and detailed threadwork.  Beautiful bright colours and elaborate backdrops make for a beautiful escape...

Tricks of The Trade: MAC Cosmetics for Manish Malhotra

TO COMPLEMENT THE painstakingly embroidered pieces in his collection, Manish Malhotra often chooses to go with a rather bare finish for his models.  We stay focused on the gold zari and ivory threadwork set against wine-red and champagne suits.  And, as our eyes are eventually drawn upwards, one can't help but be captivated by the flawless finish of the models' skin and their big, bright eyes, set off by the perfect set of false lashes.

Tricks of the Trade: MAC Cosmetics for Rohit Bal

IN A DEPARTURE FROM THE usual matchy matchy style of Indian bridal, where the groom's sherwani matches the bride  and he never vies to outdo her, designer Rohit bal opted to deconstruct the bride's outfit and let the groom's outfit pop in candy colours.  Lenghas, sarees, and shalwar suits were kept to a strict palette of the lightest tone of ivory and an antique yellow gold.  To keep with this neutral theme, the makeup was a diffused smokey eye, coffee-coloured lips and wispy, doll-like lashes.

Tricks of the Trade: Ombre Oxblood Lips

Soften a classic red lip by finishing with an updated ombre.  Oxblood pairs beautifully with cream and black and thick, doll-like eyelashes.  Add some bronzer and sweep your hair back into a bouffant bun with a thick braid for accent, to achieve that classic sepia-toned vintage vignette.
